Nightcap helps to launch Brixton Gin

Nightcap is delighted to help with the launch of Brixton Gin!

Launched amid the pandemic in November 2020, Brixton Gin is the brainchild of Co-Founders Calandra Smith and Andrew Murray Watson:

“As long-term residents of this amazing community, we wouldn’t dream of making any definitive claim as to what makes Brixton remarkable or why its unique.

What we wanted to do was make a really distinctive and delicious gin that would do the place justice and in a small way, support the local economy. We also wanted to find out what we could grow and source locally to make our gin.

That’s why we have partnered with the small family firm that makes Brixton Bees raw honey and why Urban Growth, an organisation that transforms neglected spaces into teeming gardens, is growing botanicals in Brixton that will go into our gin”.

Brixton Gin fuses bold notes of hibiscus, wood violet and raw Brixton Bees honey, with more traditional flavours of juniper, lemon and orange peel. The result is a London Dry style gin, with a beautiful and fragrant twist.

With the botanicals, Calandra added:

“What we’ve created is a truly local, urban gin, with its ingredients literally rooted in the neighbourhood. In choosing a recipe for Brixton Gin, we wanted to create something that was distinctive; a memorable taste that you could recall the next day. That’s why we opted to use wood violets and hibiscus. They give our gin delicate, floral notes to go alongside the more traditional juniper and citrus expressions. We believe it is genuinely unique – and delicious”.

The bottle label features Gustav Grais, a local showman who was commonly seen on Brixton Road in his zebra-drawn carriage in 1900s.
